Additional Information

The Scraperwiki site is active and ready for business at http://scraperwiki.com. There is also a google group at http://groups.google.com/group/scraperwiki.

The project was originally conceived to supersede planning alerts, whose codebase of scrapers can be seen at http://code.google.com/p/planningalerts/source/browse/#svn/trunk/python_scrapers, because it was very obvious to me that everything was breaking down for want of fixes too trivial to make it worth checking out and hosting the whole codebase simply to apply. The development cycle for a casual contributor is way too long.

A scraperwiki prototype was made in the summer of 2009 reflecting the idea in the purest form (it was routinely used to code itself). The release version of scraperwiki is much more constrained. I will touch on the tensions among the designers when doing something radical no one knows about, the need for users to provide feedback to get through blockages, and the way that real programmers are generally quite skeptical of the whole project.

Other issues are what are the markets, and how are we trying to sell this to the journalism community.
